THE SERMONS IN OUR SCARS!

24 One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (called the Twin), was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

Thomas said to them, “Unless I see the scars of the nails in his hands and put my finger on those scars and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

John 20:24, 25 Good News Translation

A scar by Webster’s definition is a mark remaining (as on the skin) after injured tissue has healed. The operative word of choice in this definition is “healed.” The true understanding of our scars are not to be limited to the physical. Even though we have physical scars that may have healed, the most difficult scar to heal from are our emotional and psychological scars. These scars are that are not visible scars but invisible scars. These are scars that are known by the head but felt in the heart.

• THESE ARE THE KIND OF SCARS THAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE FINISHED WITH BUT IN REALITY THEY WERE NOT FINISHED WITH YOU.

LET ME ASK YOU…

WHEN IT COMES TO EMOTIONAL SCARS…

HAS ANYBODY EVER BEEN THROUGH SOMETHING THAT IS NOT QUITE THROUGH WITH YOU?

The question that we need to answer is:

How is it possible to heal from not only our physical scars but our emotional and psychological scars?

We need to bring to our attention, Isaiah’s book that expresses the process by which our healing comes from. Isaiah writes in chapter 53:5 that “…He was wounded for our transgressions and He was bruised for our iniquities…” Our scars are a result of HIS WOUNDS. The good news according to Isaiah says that, “…BY HIS STRIPES, WE ARE HEALED.”

Healing is a possibility because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. The Sermon of Jesus’ Scars is WHAT HURT HIM CAN’T KILL US. WHAT WOUNDED JESUS’ CAN NOT KILL US! Isaiah says, “…BY HIS STRIPES, WE ARE HEALED.”
