THE GENIUS OF JESUS
[PART I]

3 As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. 4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 The Law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” 6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”
JOHN 8:3-7

John’s gospel introduces us to an inquisition of the Pharisees and Teachers of the law towards Jesus. You have humanity trying to match legalistic intelligence with Deity who is omnipotent. John’s commentary of this story recognizes that their intention was not looking for answers but preparing to make accusations against Jesus. It is in verses 5 and 6 where this plot of the enemy is recorded.

• 5 The Law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” 6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him,

What is noteworthy of this text is that the GENIUS OF JESUS is exposed in several instances in the text. One of the instances that exposes the GENIUS OF JESUS in the text teaches us that whenever you are confronted by ignorance, YOUR RESPONSE SHOULD BE SILENCE. Jesus gives us His response to nonsense in vs. 6.

• 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. [KJV]

Jesus teaches us that every action does not need your reaction. Jesus teaches us that you don’t need to respond to every word that is said to you. In other words, IGNORANCE SHOULD BE IGNORED. This speaks to the GENIUS OF JESUS that realizes that the best response to ignorance is our silence!

Simmons says, “ARGUING WITH STUDITY WILL LEAVE YOU EMPTY.”
